Words from Tom

This week I have been at our National EFCA Leadership Conference in the Twin Cities.  I have had numerous appointments, planned and unplanned, with friends and mentors.  I have sat in seminars and heard helpful presentations on growth barriers and leadership development.  I have heard good speakers at night.  These appointments have been enjoyable and helpful to develop my mind as I have been challenged to think, develop strategy and listen to wise men.   As we talked about last week in the Media Room of our heart, we need things like this to feed our minds to power them to walk with Jesus.

While these have been helpful, however, the most significant appointment  I have had has been my time with the Lord, my appointment that we talked about two weeks ago when we looked at the Living Room of our heart, that place of solitude with our Father to commune with Him, meditate on Him and His Word, and then surrender.  These times of reading, praying, and meditating have with open hands and a seeking heart have been enjoyable and fun.

The question I pose to all of us: How’s our appointment with God on the love seat of our living room going?  Are we keeping our appointment?   Because He’s already there waiting for us, seeking us to know Him and be transformed into the image of Jesus.  We need to spend time there.  If it’s something you have not done at all up to this point, try 2 times a week.  If you have had some times with the Lord, try increasing the number or spending a little more time there.  Let’s challenge each other to keep those appointments for these summer months and develop the discipline of spending time in His presence!  If we are to love God, love others and serve both, then these times must be the priority of our lives.  See what God has for you in His lap!
