Words from Tom
Having talked through the beatitudes, we now move into the next part of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus, speaking to a mixed multitude of people (believers, curious seekers, and skeptics), wants to continue to challenge them (and us) with kingdom living. He desires that His followers live under the rule of God as kingdom citizens so that we can experience the power and presence of God in our lives. That was Jesus’ goal—that is living as Jesus lived. The beatitudes have started us off, and now, in the remaining sections of this Sermon on the Mount, Jesus amplifies them through some very practical, concrete applications. We are to be beatitude-type people. How do beatitude-type people live it out? We are going to hang out some more with Jesus for the next few months, listening to Him teach, watching how He lived, experiencing His presence and power. We, His citizens, will be transformed into the image of His Son—our King.
