FIRST WEDNESDAY DINNER: Our First Wednesday Dinner is TONIGHT at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome! No need to bring food, but a donation basket will be available if you would like to contribute to the cost of the meal.

LET’S WATCH THE GAME TOGETHER! This Sunday, we’ll be having a party here at the church to watch the Big Game on the BIG SCREEN! Come on out and cheer for your favorite team! (Or talk during the game and watch the commercials.) Please bring an appetizer or other finger food to share and a 2-liter bottle of soda. Invite your friends!

MISSION TRIP MEETING: The next Mission Trip meeting will be Sunday, February 12^th after the worship service.

OUR TURN AT THE FOOD PANTRY: Friday, February 17th is our next opportunity to serve at the Food Pantry. The hours we work are 2:00-5:30 p.m., and you may work all or part of the time as your schedule permits. If you have questions, you may call Doris Friesen at 808-2929.

BETH MOORE LIVE: Beth Moore will be coming to Municipal Auditorium here in Kansas City on Friday and Saturday, April 13^th and 14^th. Joining Beth at this weekend event is acclaimed worship leader Travis Cottrell and the Praise Team. Beth’s focus will be on the Scripture that God lays on her heart for each individual Living Proof Live event – no two messages are the same. As she explores the Bible and how it applies to real life, you’ll be inspired to magnify and strengthen your own relationship with God. The Friday night session runs from 7:00-9:30 p.m., and the Saturday times are 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The cost for the event is $65. If you are interested in carpooling to the conference with some other women from Cornerstone, you may contact Janelle Vignery at 668-2435.

COMMUNION THIS SUNDAY: This Sunday we will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper during the worship service. Afterwards, there will be men at the doors of the worship center to take a love offering that will be used to help those in our body who have financial needs.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE FOR JOPLIN: New Creation Church in Joplin continues to minister to victims of the tornado last May. They serve between 80 and 300 meals a day out of their kitchen for children who have been affected by the tornado or live in poverty, as well as for volunteer relief workers. They are currently in need of canned goods for this ministry, and we would like to be part of meeting that need. If you would like to help, please bring your donations to the church by Friday, February 17th. If you have questions, you may contact Beth Zans at 278-6742.

Last Sunday after the worship service, there was a Youth Ministry information meeting. YEAR-END CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS: Year-end contribution statements are now in the church mailboxes. If you don’t have a church mailbox, your statement will be mailed to you.

“CLASSY CARDS”: If you’ve ever received a card from Lori Peterman, you know what a blessing it is to get a lovely, handmade greeting in the mail from a friend. Lori shares her talent by doing card-making classes, and she will be hosting one for us tomorrow (Thursday) night from 6-9 p.m. (come and go as you like.) The cost is $3 (non-refundable, please) and registration is required so Lori can have your packet assembled and ready for you to make 5 beautiful cards. This class is open to all adults, and to youth ages 12 and up. Younger participants should have a bent towards crafts and be accompanied by a parent. If you would like to come, you need to register TODAY by contacting Lori at lorelei2@fairpoint.net.

YOUTH NEWS:

There is no youth meeting tonight.
Immediately following the service this Sunday there will be a meeting for parents of youth grades 7-12 to discuss our youth ministry. If you have questions, you may contact Kevin Barnett at 380-7181.

NOMINATIONS NEEDED: It is time to begin preparations for our Annual Business Meeting in April. Part of that preparation involves filling at least three Members-at-Large positions on the Finance Team. According to our by-laws, the Finance Team “shall oversee the financial affairs of the church. They shall seek input from each ministry team, staff member, and the Board of Elders before preparing a proposed annual church budget to be submitted for congregational approval at the Annual Meeting.” Those serving on the Finance Team must be members of Cornerstone. This Sunday, there will be an insert in your bulletin on which you may make your nominations for these positions. From your nominations, the Connection Team will prepare a slate of names to be voted on at a special business meeting on January 22^nd after the worship service.

FUNDRAISER FOR JUST4ME: The annual Gumbo dinner at the Episcopal Church (located just off the square at 400 W Wall) has chosen to benefit Harrisonville Just4Me this year! That means all proceeds from this great dinner – featuring Gumbo, red beans and rice, French bread, rice pudding and wine, coffee or tea and a price tag of only $9, go directly toward feeding underprivileged kids in our community this summer. Slotted for this Friday, January13^th from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the church is also offering carry-out options for those in a rush. For more information or to place your takeout order, call 884-4025.

YOUTH NEWS:

The youth will meet tonight at 6 p.m.
Sunday, January 8^th – Ice Skating at Crown Center. We will be leaving Cornerstone at 4 p.m., and will return by 9 p.m. The cost is $6 admission + $3 skate rental. Please also plan on stopping for a dollar menu dinner on the way home.

This is a time to enjoy conversation with the church family and celebrate what God has been doing in people’s lives. No need to bring food, but there will be a donation basket available if you would like to contribute toward the cost of the meal. Everyone is welcome!

FAMILY ENCOURAGMENT TEAM: After the First Wednesday Dinner tonight, the Family Encouragement Team will be meeting to brainstorm, and we want your ideas! The Family Encouragement Team handles potlucks and other church-wide activities, and also coordinates care for families in times of crisis. If these are areas of interest for you, please join us. If you can’t make it at 6 p.m. for the meal, you can come just for the meeting at 6:45 p.m. We will meet for about an hour. If you have questions, contact Pam Wishall (office@cornerstonechurch.info, 816-213-3963.)

R.E.S.T.: Come join us next Monday, January 9^th, at 7 p.m. in the Fireside Room for this refreshing time of fellowship with other women in the church family. YOUTH NEWS:

BIBLE READING MARATHON: Cornerstone is offering a Bible Reading Marathon- join us as we read the entire New Testament out loud! The marathon will start with supper and the reading of the books of John and Acts this Friday evening, December 30^th and will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday with Romans through Revelations. A $6.00 fee will cover snacks and meals. Please plan to come for the entire time. This event is open to anyone high school age and above. If you would like to come, please contact Martha Gilbert at 380-5971 as soon as possible.

BABY DEDICATION: We will be taking time during the worship service sometime after the first of the year for a baby dedication. If you are interested in dedicating your baby (or child), please reply to this e-news and let us know who it is you would like to dedicate. Call the church office (380-2422) for more information.

Afterwards, ministry teams will meet, and if you are interested in a particular area of ministry in the church, you are welcome to sit in on their meeting to learn more about it. Everyone is welcome!

CHRISTMAS CAROLING: TONIGHT is the Caroling Party! The party is hosted by the Youth, and they are inviting everyone else to join them! Meet at the church at 6 p.m., and then we will go to the neighborhood across the street to sing. Please bring your favorite Christmas treat to share afterwards.

Sunday, January 8^th – Ice Skating at Crown Center

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE: We will have a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening the 24^th. This is a family service with Christmas songs, the traditional reading of the Christmas story by Nana Wildeisen, and a short message from Joe Chenoweth. We will not be having a service on Christmas day so that people may spend time with their families.

BIBLE READING MARATHON: Cornerstone is offering a Bible Reading Marathon- join us as we read the entire New Testament out loud! The marathon will start with supper and the reading of the books of John and Acts on Friday evening, December 30^th and will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday with Romans through Revelations. A $6.00 fee will cover snacks and meals. Please reserve your spot by signing up at the table in the back of the sanctuary, or by contacting Martha Gilbert at 380-5871. Please plan to come for the entire time. This event is open to anyone high school age and above.

OPEN HOUSE AT THE SAVAGES’: The Savage family would like to invite us to a Moving Open House on Monday, December 26th from 12:00 noon to 12:00 midnight. This is a time to stop by, hang out, eat food and say good-bye for as long or short as people would like. The Savages live at 26023 S. Skyline Drive here in Harrisonville.

YOUTH NEWS:

Youth meet tonight at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, December 21^st – Caroling, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Sunday, January 8^th – Ice Skating at Crown Center

BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR JESUS: On Saturday, December 17^th, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. we are going to host a celebration of Jesus’ birth for the children in our church and community. It will be a fun time of crafts, food, games, songs, a magic show by our resident magician, Nick Pierce, and of course the telling of the Christmas story. Please take a moment to invite the children in your life to come, and be praying for the kids at the party to see the love of Jesus through those working and through the songs and the story of His birth.

CHILDREN’S CONCERT: This Sunday, the children in our church family will be performing some favorite carols during the worship service.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING: Would you like to go Christmas caroling? On Wednesday, December 21^st, at 6 p.m., the youth will be going caroling in the neighborhood across the street from the church, and would like to invite the church family to come along. WORSHIP TEAM MEETING: If you are interested in being a part of Cornerstone’s Worship Team, you are invited to a meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the church to talk about how you can be involved. In addition to people gifted with vocal or instrumental talents, we also need those who would like to work with the computer or help with the sound system (training will be provided for both of these areas.) R.E.S.T.: Our next R.E.S.T. (Rejuvenation, Encouragement, Support, Transformation) evening will be Monday, December 12^th in the Fireside Room. BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR JESUS: On Saturday, December 17^th, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. we are going to host a celebration of Jesus’ birth for the children in our church and community. If you would like to help with the party, please contact Ashley Pierce (816-387-1091).

CHILDREN’S CONCERT PRACTICES: Our children will be performing some of your favorite Christmas carols during the worship service on Sunday, December 18^th. In order to be ready to sing, the kids will be practicing during the Children’s Church/Promiseland time on December 4^th and December 11^th. Parents, if you have children ages Pre-School through 5^th grade who would like to sing, if possible please be sure they are at church on these two Sundays for the practices. CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE: We will have a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening the 24^th. Since Christmas falls on Sunday this year, there will be no Sunday morning service so that people may spend time with their families.
