12^th Midwest Christian Education Expo: There will be a FREE Christian Education Expo on Saturday, March 6^th, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall, in Kansas City, MO.  There will be 50 colleges, 35 K-12 schools, and Missouri and Kansas Homeschool organizations represented. Seminars will be held throughout the day dealing with education options, homeschooling, and financial aid.  If you are interested, there are flyers on the information table by the kitchen with more information. 

Sportsmen Expo:  Come enjoy a great evening celebrating the Great Outdoors on March 9^th as FCA-Metro Kansas City hosts the Kansas City Area Sportsmen Outdoor Expo. This event being held at Heartland Community Church in Olathe will be a time for all people from the outdoor community to gather together and hear from top personalities from the hunting and fishing world. FCA along with its sponsors Bass Pro Shops, Chick-fil-A, and Leupold are proud to bring this event to the KC Metro Area. Special Announcements

CHURCH OFFICE CLOSING EARLY:  The church office will be closing at noon on Friday because Pastors Tom and Joe will be in Nebraska attending the Midwest Regional EFCA Conference, and Pam will be leaving early for the Women’s Retreat.  While Tom and Joe are gone, Bryan Gilbert will be available if you are in need of pastoral care.  He can be reached at 769-3565.

TRANSPORTATION FOR THE WOMEN’S RETREAT:  Ladies, if you are attending the Women’s Retreat, you should receive an email today with some important reminders and also with details about transportation.  Be sure to read through the email carefully and respond to Donna Drummonds with the information requested.  Thank you!!

MEALS FOR HAITI:  This weekend, the Salvation Army is having a community event to package one million meals for the earthquake survivors in Haiti.  This is taking place at The American Royal Center, Governor’s Expo from 12-8 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday.  If you have questions or would like to sign up to volunteer, you can go to www.salarmy-mokan.org or contact Betsy A. CHILDCARE NEEDED:  We are in need of someone to provide childcare this Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. for the Chili Supper/prayer time.  We will be able to pay this person $20.  If you or someone you know would be interested, please call the church office at 380-2422.

CONGRATULATIONS, ROBB!  Robb Beebe was recently promoted to Master Sergeant in the Missouri Army National Guard!   Thank you for your service on our behalf, Robb.  We appreciate you!

WOMEN’S RETREAT:  Registration is now open for the Women’s Retreat on February 26-27.  Detailed information is available at the special registration table in the Commons.  You may make a reservation for the retreat before or after the worship service for the next two Sundays, or you may mail or drop off your form at the church office.

Special Announcements

“50 DAYS WITH JESUS KICK OFF”:  This Sunday is the kick off of our “50 Days with Jesus – Living as Jesus Lived” series that we will be doing together as a church body from now until Easter Sunday.   To celebrate, we will be dismissing the worship service a little early so we can enjoy some delicious 50” sub sandwiches together!  The menu will include ham subs and turkey subs, along with some of Tom Fordyce’s delicious baked beans, chips and desserts.  Make plans to stay for this “picnic in February” as we look forward together to what the Lord is going to teach us through this study of the life of Jesus. 

HIGH SCHOOL SUPER BOWL PARTY:  Hey, High Schoolers!  There will be a Super Bowl Party here at Cornerstone this Sunday for the high school youth group.   You can come to watch the game or just hang out together.  Please bring your favorite nacho fixins to share, a couple of cans of soup to donate to the food pantry, and your friends.  The start time will be announced soon.

MISSIONARY BIRTHDAY:  Phil Litle, one of Cornerstone’s missionaries who serves with Campus Crusade in Israel (and who is also Suzanne Barnett’s brother), is turning 50 on February 3^rd.  Let’s bless him with a shower of birthday greetings!  His email address is plitle@alum.mit.edu, and his home address is 86 Moriah Blvd., Haifa, Israel 34613. 

VALENTINE’S DINNER:  At 5:30 p.m. on February 13^th at The Farm on south Hwy 7, there is a Valentine’s Day dinner with a concert afterwards by Chris Filer, a very talented local musician.   The cost of the dinner is $12.50 per person, and the concert is also $12.50.  If you are interested in sitting as a group with others from the church during the show, please contact Susan Lockard by January 31^st at 380-4216 or susanlockard@embarqmail.com so that she can get a Cornerstone block reserved.  (You may purchase tickets after that date, but may not be able to sit with the group.)  

The dinner tickets and concert tickets are sold separately, so for those who are interested in the concert but would like to make the evening more affordable, we will be having a pot luck dinner here at the church beforehand.   Then we will all travel out to The Farm and sit together to enjoy the show.  There will be more details about the dinner as the date approaches.

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY: The final day to enroll and make payment for Financial Peace University will be Monday, February 1^st, immediately following the Introductory Session.  The Intro Session will be held at 6:30 p.m. here at Cornerstone.  Classes will begin Monday, February 8, at 6:30 p.m.  Remember that if you already have a kit, there is no cost to take a refresher course or to complete your FPU Degree if you have not already completed the course.  If you have any interest or curiosity about FPU, please come and check out the Intro Session.  We will have time to talk and answer questions after the video.  You are also welcome to call (816-797-9136) or e-mail Misty and Thomas (elvisgirl@hotmail.com or ohnemust@aol.com).  There are some partial scholarships available, and we are looking into having childcare. 

JOB OPENINGS: 

            *The City of Harrisonville has a part-time and a full-time position open for animal control       officer. Anyone interested can pick up an application at the police department.

            *Sapulpa Auto Pool has a need for 2 to 3 drivers for their auctions on Tuesdays from

INVITATION FROM KIDS’ TIME CHURCH:  Mark Sunde sends this announcement:  Kids’ Time Church would like to invite the rest of the congregation to join us as we raise funds for Haiti. The children in Kids’ Time Church felt led to have our weekly offerings go to Haiti due to the catastrophe for the rest of this month and February. Our children might be asking for ways they can earn extra money around the house or in the community during this time. Children in the past have sold baked goods, washed cars, done yard work, baby sat, had a garage sale, etc.

                Look at Joseph: the angel tells him to take Mary as his wife, and he does.  The angel tells him Herod is looking to kill Jesus and to flee to Egypt, and he does.  After Herod dies, an angel tells him to move back to Israel, and he does.  When he’s warned in a dream about Archelaus ruling in Judea, he journey’s to Nazareth as an act of obedience.  What about Mary and her response to the angel’s statement about the supernatural conception of Jesus—“May it be to me as you have said.”  Read her song in Luke 1:46ff.  Wow!  Obedience is God’s love language and is the godly response to true worship.  We all say for the Christ-follower, “Christmas can be a 24/7/365 thing.”  And it is—worship and an obedient response to the call of God.  One word again—WOW!  May our 24/7/365 lives be characterized by both.

INVITATION FROM KIDS’ TIME CHURCH:  Mark Sunde sends this announcement:  Kids’ Time Church would like to invite the rest of the congregation to join us as we raise funds for Haiti. The children in Kids’ Time Church felt led to have our weekly offerings go to Haiti due to the catastrophe for the rest of this month and February. Our children might be asking for ways they can earn extra money around the house or in the community during this time. Children in the past have sold baked goods, washed cars, done yard work, baby sat, had a garage sale, etc.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:   Aaron’s House, a non-profit Maternity Home based here in Harrisonville, is looking for people interested in volunteering for our fundraising/banquet planning committee. If you are interested in volunteering and would like to attend a  Banquet Event Training at Aaron’s House, please contact Jeannine Eddins at 258-0060 for more information. Aaron’s House also has openings for Board Members.

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY:  Thomas and Misty Ohnemus will be leading a Financial Peace University class on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. here at the church starting February 8^th.  There will be a “preview” session on February 1^st , also at 6:30 at Cornerstone, for anyone who would like to learn more about the class.  For more information, you can call Misty at 797-9136.

CORNERSTONE CONNECT:   If you are a newcomer to Cornerstone, we invite you to take a closer look at our church by attending “Cornerstone Connect” this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. (during the Bible class time.)  This informal discussion is a chance for you to learn more about Cornerstone’s vision and values, and also about the opportunities available to you here at the church.   The group will meet in Pastor Tom’s office, and a light breakfast will be provided. Hope to see you there!

LADIES’ NIGHT OUT!  This Friday, January 15^th, at 7:00 p.m. is another Bunco Party at Juanita Blackwell’s house.  If you’d like to come, please let Juanita know by as soon as possible at 779-4299 or blackwellj@harrisonville.k12.mo.us  (Be sure respond using her email rather than just clicking reply to this newsletter!) Latecomers are welcome, and feel free to invite a friend.  Just bring $2 and a 2-liter of pop (some diet please) or a healthy snack.  If you can’t bring any food, no one will notice or care.  There’ll be plenty.  She only has two tables and eight chairs, but room for 28 ladies (sixteen upstairs and twelve down in the family room).  If you can bring a card table and/or chairs or an inexpensive gift to give away as a prize, please let her know.

Directions from 71 North:

1.         Turn left at the Peculiar exit onto C Hwy.

2.         Go all the way through town. When the road splits off to the left, keep to the right (the            straight path)

3.         Counting roads on your right, come to the third one (239th).  First is

            227, then “S” curves, then 233, and then 239 is a quarter mile? after you top a small hill.        However, 239th is only identified on the left side of the road.

4.         Go to the “T” and turn right.

5.         Go to the 4th house on left.  It is a taupe house with white porch railings and green

            shutters and door.  A loud but harmless dog will greet you

1.         Take 2 Hwy to C Hwy. and turn right

2.         Go approximately 5 miles to 239th St. and turn left  (There is no sign

            marking our housing edition.  However, after  you pass Shadow Hills edition on your right,   239th is about 1/2 mile on your left).

3.         Go to the “T” and turn right.
