CONGRATULATIONS, GRADUATES

It’s that time of year again – the time when we get to recognize our high school graduates. We’ll be honoring our graduates this Sunday, May 19th, during the worship service.

Another opportunity to honor these students is the Harrisonville High School Baccalaureate, which will be TONIGHT at 7 pm at the Performing Arts Center at the high school. Our own Taylor Spencer is one of the students speaking that evening.

WAYS YOU CAN BE INVOLVED IN CORNERSTONE’S FAITH FACTOR VBS:

There are still spots available where you can serve. Visit the information center at the church to get information and volunteer sign-up sheets.
We would love to give each child a Faith Factor T-shirt. Would you consider ministering to two children by buying two shirts for $10 and then committing to pray for those two children?
A list of items you can donate to VBS will be coming soon!

VBS TRAINING SESSIONS

If you have volunteered to work at VBS, please plan on attending one of the two training sessions that we are having. They are scheduled for Saturday, June 1^st and Saturday, June 8^th from 10 am to noon, both here at the church. If you have questions or conflicts, contact Michele McCune.

CHURCH WORK DAY

Roll up your sleeves and grab your work gloves– we’re having a church work day! Come join us on Saturday, June 1^st as we tackle some projects on the church grounds and in the building. We’ll be working on outdoor projects from 9 am – noon and indoor projects from noon – 3:00 pm. If you have yard tools, cordless drills, screw drivers, etc., please bring them along. See one of the deacons for more information.

ALL CHURCH POTLUCK

On Sunday, June 9th, everyone is invited to an all-church potluck after the worship service. Please bring a main dish and one side dish, either a salad, vegetable, or dessert.

YOUTH NEWS

The youth groups will be taking a break for the rest of the month of May so everyone can be free to celebrate graduation, and Memorial Day. Enjoy the time with your families, and we’ll see you in June!

SUPPORT OUR FOOD PANTRY

TEAM 52: What is team 52? It’s a way to continue our generous giving to the local Food Pantry throughout the entire year. Join Team 52 by choosing one Sunday to contribute $52 to the pantry. You can join Team 52 by choosing a date on the sign-up sheet by the office.
CORNERSTONE’S DAY AT THE PANTRY: Cornerstone’s next turn to serve at the Food Pantry is Friday, May 31^st from 12-6 pm. You can sign up for one or more two-hour shifts on the bulletin board by the office.

MEGA DAY AT BRIDGE OF HOPE

Mega Day is coming at Bridge of Hope on Saturday, June 8th. They describe the purpose of the day in this way: “The purpose of Mega Day is to introduce Bridge of Hope to the surrounding area we serve and to educate the area about how it became an immoral, poor, violent, depressed and uneducated community, and to show show how Bridge of Hope is tackling these issues.” Volunteers are needed on May 25th and June 1st when they are going to canvass their ministry area to invite people to come. They also need help on Mega Day with a barbecue and with the activities they have planned for the kids and youth. If you are interested in serving, you may reply to this email and let us know or call the church office at 380-2422.

FIRST WEDNESDAY FELLOWSHIP

Tonight is our First Wednesday Fellowship Dinner at 6:00 pm here at Cornerstone. Everyone is welcome to come for this time of food and fellowship. No need to bring anything, but a donation basket will be available if you would like to contribute toward the cost of the meal.

VBS MEETING TONIGHT!

Tonight after the fellowship dinner we’ll be meeting to talk about our Vacation Bible School, which is coming up on June 24th-28th. You can come to this meeting if you know where you want to serve in VBS, if you want to serve but aren’t sure where, or if you just want to hear more so you can decide if God wants you to serve. Come join us to hear about the exciting things in store for this year’s VBS!

GARAGE SALE FOR JOSH BARNETT

Our mission team would like to let you know about an opportunity this weekend for us as a church family to support Joshua Barnett as he prepares for his short term mission trip this summer to Sierra Leone, Africa. This Saturday (May 4th) is Harrisonville’s City-Wide Garage Sale, and the Barnetts are having a sale to raise funds for Josh’s trip. They could use any items you have that you would be willing to donate for them to sell. NOTE: The garage sale will be taking place at the home of Bryan and Martha Gilbert, 1903 Meadowlark. If you have things to donate, you may take them to the Gilbert’s home (please call ahead – 380-5971), bring them to the church, or you may contact Suzanne Barnett at 896-5191 and someone will come pick them up for you. Whether you have things to donate or not, you can support Josh by dropping by the Gilbert’s home on Saturday to shop at the sale!

Spring is here, bringing warmer weather (eventually) flowers, and…spring cleaning! We’ve been doing some extra cleaning around here, and have gathered up the odds and ends that have been left here over the winter. You’ll find them on a table by the kitchen. Please stop by sometime between now and this Sunday to see if there is something there that belongs to you. Whatever is left after Sunday will be donated to the Thrift Store.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS?

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL!!!

June 24th-28th

What a great opportunity to reach into the community and share God’s love and His free gift of salvation with the children of Harrisonville!

We need your help. Please consider serving in one of the following areas:

Prayer Team, Administration/Registration, Publicity, Decoration Set Up (June 23 pm), Crew Leader, Bible Story Team, Game Team, Craft Team, Snack Team, Music/Worship Team, Nursery Team (nursery is for volunteers’ children only) and Sound.

You may indicate your areas of interest on a VBS Volunteer Form, which can be found at the information center next to the church kitchen. Please place your completed form in Michele McCune’s mailbox.

We’ll be having a VBS meeting on May 1^st at the First Wednesday Dinner.

Looking forward to touching children’s lives for eternal significance with you!

HEY KIDS! IT’S AN EASTER CARNIVAL!

Bounce Houses, Face Painting, Carnival Games, and an Easter Egg Hunt are planned for the FREE Easter Carnival this Saturday, sponsored by Harrisonville Churches and the Harrisonville Parks and Recreation Department. Festivities start at 1 p.m. and the Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Would you like to help make this carnival a great time for the 1500 children that are expected to attend? Just meet at 10:00 a.m. at the concession stand by the ball fields at North Park and they’ll put you to work. You may contact Crossroads Assembly of God, 884-2344, for more information.

SERVICES FOR EASTER WEEKEND

GOOD FRIDAY: Join us on Good Friday from 6:30-7:30 pm to pause and remember our Lord’s suffering and death. The sanctuary has been beautifully decorated to provide a setting that will help us to reflect on His sacrificial love for us. There will be a nursery provided for your little ones so you may have an undistracted time of worship.

EASTER SUNDAY: Come CELEBRATE with us on Easter Sunday at our usual times: 9:30 a.m. Bible Classes and 10:45 a.m. Worship Service. He is Risen – He is Risen Indeed!

2013 CORNERSTONE WORSHIP TEAM RETREAT

SATURDAY, APRIL 20TH AND SUNDAY MORNING, APRIL 21ST

Whether you are a drummer, tech guy or gal, vocalist, musician or work with the booth in other ways, we would love for you to come out and spend time together growing our unity in community at Cornerstone’s 2013 Worship Team Retreat. This retreat will be a time for us all to come together as a team, bringing our gifts and talents to help enhance the worship experience for the church. There will be time for playing music, praying together and training. We have a consultant who has agreed to come help us accomplish the look and sound that we desire in order to bless and grow others in their worship time. We will be providing food, so please RSVP to me if you will be able to come so we can get a rough estimate of how many will be attending. We will be putting out the retreat schedule within the next week or so. Thank you for your willingness to serve.

WAY TO GO, CORNERSTONE!

We’ve set a new Cornerstone record by raising an unprecedented 6600+ pounds of food for the Food Pantry! If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet, you can still do so this Sunday as we have one final week to work toward our goal of 15,200 pounds. Remember, you can either bring in non-perishable foods or make a monetary donation, with checks made payable to the church. Praise God for allowing us to give so generously!

BABY BOTTLES FOR LIFE

Everyone has loose change around their houses, whether in a jar, a piggy bank, or under the sofa cushions. This is your opportunity to put those coins to good use. Look for a table in the Commons with a display of baby bottles, take one home and fill it with your coins, and bring it back to the church. We’ll take all our filled bottles to the Life Choice Center, our local crisis pregnancy center, for them to use for their ministry expenses. If you have questions, you may contact Teresa Haffner.

ATTENTION, PARENTS!

Thank you so much for filling out and turning in the Children’s Ministry Registration cards that we sent you in the mail! Having your information ahead of time will hopefully make things run more smoothly this Sunday as we put our plan into action. Just as a reminder, below is the Check-In process we are asking you to follow with your children. We are implementing this new procedure because your children are very important to us – thank you for helping us get it rolling!

Cornerstone Children’s Check-In Process

Step #1 – Check-In your child at the Check-In Station

Step #2 – Pick up your child at their classroom after Sunday School and take them to the worship service with you.

Step #3 – Worship Service Dismissal—Before the message, your child will be escorted to their class by a member of the safety team.

Step #4 – Check out your child at the Check-In Station after the worship service.
