Stones | Remembrance Stones

The ancient stories of God and His people are full of wanderings and repentance, God’s miraculous interventions, commitment and victories, and the Promised Land. All along the way stones were used to mark defining moments of their travels and experiences.
Did you know there are figurative stone markers we need in our journey with God still today? Spend the first month of 2018 collecting your stones and defining your path to a fulfilling future.

Joshua 4:1-24

Cairns are stacked of piled stones.

God wanted them to remember

Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.
Deuteronomy 7:9

God wanted them to teach new generations

So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, and said to them, ‘Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.
Joshua 4:4-7

God wanted them to honor him in the world.

He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful.
Joshua 4:24

Where are your stones?
