The Not So Silent Killer | Anger's Price Tag

Anger is a familiar emotion.

It motivates

smolders

rages

kills.

Anger can lead to the death of relationships we cherish, the death of intimacy with God, even the death of our own spirits.

But…anger is an emotion God created.

So, what can we do about it?

Anger has a price tag.

When I understand how much it costs me, I will be more likely to control my anger and make sure the price is worth it.

Message Notes

Anger has a price tag.

“Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.”
Proverbs 19:11

Prayer: God, grant me the wisdom and grace to overlook anything that you would overlook, and the courage and mercy to confront anything that you would confront - and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.

Anger and insecurity go together.

“Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks. And God’s peace, which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. Do what you learned and received from me, what I told you, and what you saw me do. And the God who gives peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:6-9

Prayer: Lord, help me guard my heart. I want to banish anger and welcome positive peace. I know you want to live in a place like that. Help me redecorate my heart in the ways that make you at home today. Help me shut off the slow leaks that put my heart’s home at risk. Amen.

Put out the angry fire.

“A hot-tempered person starts fights; a cool-tempered person stops them.” Proverbs 15:1

Prayer: Lord, help me be the person who directs drama to you today. I don’t want to either cause it or be caught up in it. Help me be a healing agent of your grace through my words and actions today.

“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.” James 1:19-20

The Not So Silent Killer | As Old As Time

But…anger is an emotion God created.

Anger has been around since the creation of man - and it’s been an issue for almost as long.

The very first family experienced devastating, out of control anger.

And families today still struggle with it.

Is there an answer?

Message Notes

“And don't sin by letting anger control you. Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.” Ephesians 4:26–27

Anger is not a sin.

Not managing our anger properly is the problem.

Anger needs a short lifespan.

Unresolved anger is a wide open door for sin.

Pressure Points | The Pressure of Patience

Pressure is nothing new.

In the first century a Christ-follower named James wrote to Jewish Christians who faced intense pressure - even persecution. James urged these first believers to let the pressure push them deeper into their faith. Today James teaches us how God's truth can empower us using our Pressure Points.
