Our History

In 2020 we celebrated 40 years as Cornerstone Church and launched into a whole new season of renewed and refreshed ministry! As we continue forward into new chapters, we will always celebrate and honor every incredible act of God and faithful Ministry Partner over the years within our church, our outreach, and in our communities!

2020

2020 was a year for the books in every single way! Whether we always liked it or understood what he was up to, God was doing a New Thing. It was powerful, uncontrollable, unexpected. He didn't ask for permission before sweeping through...But, Cornerstone Church paddled like mad through the streams (more like rapids) that he's created in the wasteland!

Because we answered God’s invitation to trust him, to drop in and ride with him, we have been equipped with resources that allowed us to reach and help people; give, serve, and love people - generously and excellently - throughout a global pandemic!

There is a fresh wave of the Holy Spirit that is coming. It is all around us, yet has only just begun. What’s on the horizon is powerful, uncontrollable, and unexpected. Whether we like or understand what he is doing, he will do a new thing. He doesn’t ask for permission. He just sweeps through, and when he does his people either paddle like mad or they miss out. God doesn’t need you to understand him, but he invites you to trust him, jump in, and ride with him.

2010-2019

The mission of Cornerstone was strong in 2010 and the years following. So much happened, so much changed. We've saw celebration and heartache, shared tears of laughter and loss. There were amazing moments and hard trials.

The overarching vision that drove the mission was “making a successful pass of a vital, relevant faith to new generations.” We worked hard together and with God to make it happen.

The Lord remained constant and steadfast through it all, and we clung to His continued promises as we walked into the next chapter of Cornerstone Church together!

2000-2009

A whole new century—a brand new millennium! Cornerstone, like the rest of the world, was full of plans and dreams. Our reputation for meeting needs and caring like Jesus spread around the community, city, and state.

Pastor Brenda Young’s inaugural I HAVE A DREAM message introduced our mission statement “helping people find the Father, a Family, and a Fulfilling Future.” This was founded on prayer, and we began building a strong prayer ministry. Through an event we would never have expected or desired, God moved our prayer efforts forward in earnest.

1990-1999

From the beginning of Cornerstone to the new millennium, and even now, it’s always been the people—people who love God with all they have and are committed to love each other and the world as Jesus loves them. They made it happen!

1980-1989

Cornerstone Church began the decade with around 75 dedicated people and very young pastors. They grew together and loved each other into greatness. By the end of the 1980’s, the church family had grown to 200, and Pastor Charlie and Brenda Young’s family had grown by three. The wonderful church family who surrounded the Youngs with prayers and examples of Christ-like love had no way of knowing that the children they were loving and leading would grow to one day lead their own children and grandchildren to Jesus…
